About Scott

Scott Walters is a retired U.S. Navy officer and former TOPGUN instructor who served as a Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) in the F-14B Tomcat and a Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) in the F/A-18F Super Hornet. He holds a B.S. in mathematics, a minor in physics—with additional study in the biological sciences. He also studied at Dallas Theological Seminary for three years prior to entering military service.

He has also taken the long road home.

His life has included extraordinary opportunities, but also tremendous failure, loss, and much wandering. Along the way, he learned the hard way that knowing a great deal about God is not the same as knowing Him at all. He ultimately concluded his questions of faith were not just a matter of the mind, but also of the heart.

He lives in Kentucky with his wife, Amanda, their family, three cats, and Lil’ Jake, a chocolate Lab who has remained remarkably unconcerned with any of this.

Pigpen was my callsign for twenty years. It is also where the prodigal ended up in Luke 15. Beyond the Pigpen is the story of the road home.
