I would not be alive today apart from the grace of God. I would also not be alive had God not placed a puppy into my life weeks before I understood how desperately I needed Him—or him. His name was Vito.

Years earlier, Commander TJ “Sherminator” Flora and I helped design a paint scheme for an F-14B Tomcat in VF-32. Sherm’s name went beneath the front cockpit and mine beneath the rear. The aircraft number was 112.

For every dollar received in author royalties from this book, 11.2% will be given to Retrieving Freedom, Inc., to support its work training and placing service dogs for disabled veterans at no cost—in memory of my two great friends, “Sherm” and “Vito.”
